SUMMARY:From Within: Strings & Voices
DESCRIPTION:Pegasus: The Orchestra opens its 10th Anniversary Season with an intimate string-orchestra program centered on the ensemble’s own leading voices. Led by founder\, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Karén Hakobyan\, the concert features Pegasus in a 12-piece string orchestra formation\, with concertmaster Ruggero Allifranchini\, principal oboist Noah Kay\, and principal cellist Ari Evan appearing as soloists. In this opening program\, Pegasus turns inward to highlight the artistry\, individuality\, and collaborative spirit at the heart of the orchestra. \nConducting and playing from the harpsichord in the first half\, Karén Hakobyan leads Bach’s Concerto for Violin and Oboe in C minor\, featuring Ruggero Allifranchini and Noah Kay in a luminous exchange between two solo voices. Ruggero Allifranchini then takes center stage in Haydn’s Violin Concerto in G Major\, a work of Classical grace and refined virtuosity. \nAfter intermission\, Ari Evan is featured in Azarashvili’s Concerto for Violoncello and String Orchestra\, a lyrical and deeply expressive work for cello and strings. Noah Kay returns as soloist in Bach’s Sinfonia “Arioso” from Cantata BWV 156\, before Pegasus closes the printed program with Britten’s spirited Simple Symphony. As a celebratory encore\, the orchestra performs the Prelude from Grieg’s Holberg Suite.

SUMMARY:"Love Fragments" /«پراکنده‌ها از عشق»
DESCRIPTION:Love Fragments is an evening-long song cycle for soprano and violin on a collection of modern Persian love poems. \nLove Fragments («پراکنده ها از عشق») consists of a cycle of 10 pieces based on ten love poems by writers who made significant contributions to the transformation of Farsi lyric poetry into its diverse modern forms. The selected poets—Ahmad Shāmlū\, Sohrāb Sepehri\, Rezā Barāheni\, Bijan Jalāli\, Mohammad Mokhtāri\, Forūgh Farrokhzad\, Yadollāh Royaee\, and Nimā Yushij—each took a deeply individual approach to modern lyricism\, yet shared a common thread: they explored the possibility of writing love poetry through new linguistic horizons\, often bypassing periods of political censorship and repression. \nMusic by Ashkan Behzadi\nSoprano: Charlotte Mundy\nand\nViolin: Marina Kifferstein \nThe concert runs\, without intermission\, around 75 minutes and a free reception will follow.

SUMMARY:28th Annual MATA Festival: Night Three: Local Music
DESCRIPTION:‘Local music’ refers to Feldman’s focused exploration of isolated\, quiet\, and intimate sound moments – the “local” action of a single note or chord over the overall structure\, creating a physical sound-world that emphasizes the tactile\, immediate properties of sound. The seven-member BlackBox Ensemble (flute/clarinet/piano/percussion/violin/cello/voice)\, conducted by Leonard Bopp\, plays finely detailed scores by Laila Arafah\, Erich Barganier\, Kristupas Bubnelis\, Gillian Rae Perry\, Floriana Provenzano\, and Jessica Shand. Rounding out the program are two iconic works by Feldman from the 1970s: For Frank O’Hara\, and I Met Heine on the Rue Fürstenberg.

SUMMARY:Ensemble Fantasque: Beyond Urban
DESCRIPTION:Whether subconscious or not\, these composers are affected by their own environment. Varèse’s output is influenced by sounds of the city\, which can be heard in his Octandre. Wuorinen’s New York Notes reflects the city’s liveliness and bustle. On the other hand\, Schoenberg and Amelia Brey\, who live in urban surroundings\, express things that transcend beyond the sounds of the streets in their music. Yet\, both come up with music that is different in style and expression. To what extent are these composers really affected by urban life?
