SUMMARY:Immersive Symphony Concert: Sublime Schubert
DESCRIPTION:As you take your seat INSIDE A FULL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA\, you will be overwhelmed as you see\, feel and hear the incredibly moving and captivating music of Franz Schubert–music that pulls you into a world of mystery and suspense\, yet bold\, expansive and unstoppable. Enjoy a reception with the performers following the concert. \nAudience Comments:\n“Absolutely and positively one of the best experiences ever! This is a smart investment in the future growth of symphony audiences.” \n“We’ve become musical ‘converts’ solely due to your InsideOut concert experience and thoroughly anticipate the next one.” \n“I have been to many concerts at the world’s great concert halls\, but none were close to as memorable as the InsideOut concert I experienced on Sunday. I have never in my life engaged with music as holistically or dramatically—as ecstatically—as I did while sitting on stage among those musicians. Indeed\, I have never been so fully enveloped like that in such magnificent sound. It was a thrill of a lifetime!”

DESCRIPTION:As you and your family take your seat INSIDE A FULL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA\, you will be overwhelmed as you see\, feel and hear the incredibly moving and captivating music of Franz Schubert–music that pulls you into a world of mystery and suspense\, yet bold\, expansive and unstoppable. Following the performance\, families enjoy an Instrument Zoo where they can play the instruments of the orchestra. \nAudience Comments:\n“Incredible! Took my husband and three girls where we sat between the violins and flutes. When talking about our favorite things we did during our trip (the girls’ first) to NYC\, this was at the top of everyone’s list. I’d never heard of anything like this and everyone who saw the videos I posted online thought it looked amazing too. I literally started crying the second the music began because I was so happy to be there. The instrument zoo afterwards was also fun for the kids!” \n“Absolutely and positively one of the best experiences ever! This is a smart investment in the future growth of symphony audiences.”

SUMMARY:Musica Ricercata
DESCRIPTION:This program pairs two masterworks linked by the idea of “ricercata\,” or “sought music.” \nThe concert opens with György Ligeti’s Musica ricercata (1951-53) in a new arrangement. The title is literal: Ligeti’s goal was to “build a new music from nothing\,” with each of the eleven movements systematically adding new pitches. You may recognize parts of it from the popular Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet\, which were drawn from this original piano work. \nThis theme of searching continues with Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2\, Op. 81. This radiant\, beloved work is the result of Dvořák’s own 15-year search for the perfect quintet. After destroying his first attempt (Op. 5)\, he returned to the form to create this undisputed masterpiece of chamber music.

SUMMARY:OF SORROW BORN - Michael Hersch's works for solo instruments
DESCRIPTION:A composer of “uncompromising brilliance” (The Washington Post) whose work has been described by The New York Times as “viscerally gripping and emotionally transformative music … claustrophobic and exhilarating at once\, with moments of sublime beauty nestled inside thickets of dark virtuosity\,” Michael Hersch appears as both composer and pianist in NYC for the first time in over seven years along with two of his closest collaborators\, violinist Miranda Cuckson and cellist Coleman Itzkoff. The program includes the world premiere of “Es beginnt” after poetry of another close Hersch collaborator\, poet Anja Utler. \nWhen Hersch last performed his own music in New York alongside Cuckson\, the event was named among the “Top Ten Performances of 2018” by New York Classical Review\, writing that “both players tested the limits of tonal range and virtuosity on their instruments\, while exploring mostly the darker side of human experience.”
