The BlackBox Ensemble, an NYC-based contemporary music collective, presents the world premiere of Erich Barganier’s “Flyover Country,” an evening-length piece for speaker and chamber ensemble based on the poetry collection of the same name by John McCarthy. The poetry depicts a gritty, sad, and beautiful panorama of rural, pre-Y2K America and the living history of those intertwined with the region. This new work builds on the poetry, creating a stark, harsh musical setting for McCarthy’s text.
