Folk Tunes

We invite you to join the Talea Ensemble for an all American program of new and recent works, including Shawn Jaeger’s “The Cold Pane” (2013), Ben Johnston’s String Quartet #4 “Amazing Grace” (1973), and Christopher Trapani’s “Waterlines” (2005/2012). Tonight’s composers hail from Georgia, Louisiana, and Kentucky, and although their works weave together a variety of musical interests—from the distinctive beauty of Just Intonation to innovative uses of field recordings or audio technology—each composer’s musical thinking is nourished in some way by the influential heritage of Appalachian folksong. The Talea Ensemble is joined by James Baker, conductor, and Lucy Dhegrae, voice.
