Lukas Foss Centennial Celebration: Chamber Works of 5 Decades

October 5, 2022 @ 2:30 pm

  • This event has passed.

We celebrate composer Lukas Foss on the 100th anniversary of his birthyear with chamber works from five decades, performed by faculty of the University at Buffalo’s Department of Music. Foss was a brilliant, exploratory musician whose compositional output ranged over major trends of the 20th century. We also highlight his profound relationship with Buffalo and the University, above all as founding Director of the Center for the Creative and Performing Arts and Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Today’s program features a selection of Foss’s “Americana” pieces, the minimalist-flavored Solo Observed, and one of his towering masterworks, Time Cycle.
