The Renaissance String Quartet, hailing from New York City, was founded in 2021 by violinists Randall Goosby and Jeremiah Blacklow, violist Jameel Martin, and cellist Daniel Hass. The four members have been best friends and collaborators since 2012, and this concert marks the official debut of the quartet. Alongside works by Mozart and Beethoven, the program will include the premiere of cellist Daniel Hass’s String Quartet No. 1, titled “Love and Levity.” The piece is in four movements and tells the story of Hass’s diverse musical background; the lyricism and structural integrity of classical music mixed with the eccentricities of 21st century composition, jazz idioms, and a daring virtuosity throughout.
