PinkNoise Presents: Systema naturae by Mauro Lanza and Andrea Valle

Join us for our most ambitious project yet as PinkNoise presents the North American premiere of the epic four-part cycle Systema naturae for instruments and electromechanical devices by Andrea Valle and Mauro Lanza.

The work is inspired by Carl Linnaeus’s book of the same title, which through his pioneering work on zoological nomenclature, sought to collect, classify, and give order to all things in the natural world. Lanza and Valle recreate the living (and non-living) kingdoms by imbuing man-made scrap, recycled, everyday inanimate objects with resonance and sound and animating them into computer-controlled instruments. The acoustic instruments interact with these sounds that are composed by analyzing the spectra of the objects collected. With Systema naturae, Lanza and Valle create a new catalogue of musical sounds.
