The Anchoress: An Evening of Music by David Ludwig

October 18, 2018 @ 8:00 PM

Soprano Hyunah Yu; Piffaro, The Renaissance Band; and the PRISM Quartet present the premiere of a new monodrama by composer David Ludwig and poet Katie Ford. “The Anchoress” imagines the life of a medieval mystic, merging the sounds of ancient and modern worlds to explore issues of faith, gender, isolation, and social power. An anchoress would permanently sequester herself into a small cell attached to a church from which she would offer guidance to townspeople, until her own eventual passing in the “anchorhold.” She became a “living saint” in the eyes of the Church. The program includes additional works by Ludwig featuring soprano Tiffany Townsend, violinist Karen Kim, flutist Mimi Stillman, and pianist Susan Nowicki.
